WebOct 22, 2015 · Hi -. I have a 1979 CJ-5 304 V8 Renegade that I recently purchased. I notice a strong gas smell in the garage after parking the Jeep once I've driven it. The smell dissipates after a couple of hours if I leave the doors open. I've checked for fuel leaks and there's nothing obvious. It has a new Holley 600 carburetor installed by the PO. WebJeep is showing High mileage. I thought this funny when I bought it, because the jeep shows no evidence of this many miles. Clutch and brake pedal not worn much and shift levers are tight.Jeep is showing 288,000 on odometer. Valve cover gasket is seeping. Brake lights turn signals stopped working. A few gauges aren't working.
